Transcription: Pollutants from industry are released into the atmosphere. Some of these pollutants fall on the surrounding countryside as dry deposition, but most of them stay high in the atmosphere where they react together in the presence of light and water to form an acidic vapour. Winds carry the vapour over great distances and eventually it condenses and falls as rain or snow far from the source of the original pollution. Some of the acid water is taken up by trees while more flows into the groundwater and eventually reaches streams, rivers and lakes.
